SEVILLANAS is a traditional folk dance of southern Spain that is often danced at celebrations in pairs or alone. It is a fun and interactive way to get a jump start in flamenco. It is also a great transition into flamenco. Castanets (the iconic instrument played with both hands, tied by strings on your thumbs) is a vital element to flamenco. It is a nice break for the body to use isolate and your hands your fingers, however, it is not any easier. During this hour (on Sundays only) we begin the class with castanet technique followed by its application to the Sevillanas dance. Then the second half of the class is focused solely on learning the Sevillanas.
