ADVANCED BEGINNER in-person & zoom
Technique & Abandolaos Choreography
Sundays 12:00-1:00pm at El Barrio’s Artspace
Tuesdays 6:00-7:00pm at Flamenco Vivo
Advanced Beginner is designed for students who have studied flamenco consistently for at least 1–2 years or have completed our Beginner Level 1 class and are ready to take their training to the next level. This class moves at a faster pace and introduces greater complexity in both movement and musicality. It is divided into technique and choreography segments to help dancers deepen their foundation in:
– Floreo (hand movements)
– Braceo (arm movements)
– Zapateado/Taconeo (footwork)
– Marcajes (marking steps)
– Compás y Palmas (rhythm and hand-clapping)
– Giros (turns)
– Posture, body placement, and control
Each class builds on the previous one, allowing students to steadily advance their skills and artistry. To support their growth, students are expected to practice outside of class (as little as 5–15 minutes a day can go a long way). This is the class to take if you’re serious about improving and want to work toward performance opportunities. Students will have the chance to perform in our Zambomba holiday showcase in December and our annual Fiesta Flamenca student showcase in June. This semester’s choreography will be set to the lively and expressive palo of ABANDOLAOS.
