On Monday, March 9, Xianix Barrera presents QUEBRADA at the Guggenheim Museum — one of New York City's most celebrated cultural institutions — as part of the Works & Process Uptown Rhythm Dance Festival, sharing the stage with Basque contemporary dance company Kukai Dantza. Works & Process has championed new works and offered audiences unprecedented access to generations of leading creators and performers, and landing on that stage is a full-circle moment for an artist rooted in this community. The evening opened with a moderated discussion giving audiences a rare look into both choreographers' creative processes, before QUEBRADA and Nire Txokotik took over the room. Xianix's QUEBRADA is flamenco as excavation: a meditation on what it means to break, to rebuild, and to find the parts of yourself that only surface once something fractures. It's resilience not as triumph but as truth, and Xianix is determined to bring this work to as many audiences as possible.
